芭蕾舞剧《泪泉》取材于俄罗斯19世纪伟大诗人亚历山大·普希金的抒情长诗《巴赫奇萨拉依的水泉》，1962年12月，刚刚留学归国的剧团编导王希贤根据前苏联基洛夫芭蕾舞团1934年首演的版本排演了芭蕾舞剧《泪泉》，并选用了鲍里斯·阿萨菲耶夫的原创音乐作为舞剧音乐。1962年12月17日首演当天，周恩来、陈毅等领导也到天桥剧场观看《泪泉》。
Ballet The Fountain of Bakhchisarai was based on the 600-line verse tale of the same name by the great Russian poet of 19th century Alexander Pushkin. In December 1962, the newly graduated choreographer Wang Xixian came back to China, and staged for the Company The Fountain of Bakhchisarai, a version premiered in 1934 by Kirov Ballet of Soviet Union, using the original music of Boris Asafiev. On December 17th, Mr. Zhou Enlai and Chen Yi were also attended the performance in Tianqiao Theatre.
